Ferstl 相關的實踐案例可見於替代空間 Prince of Wales(慕尼黑,2016)舉辦的個展等以及 於 AA Collection(維也納,2013)、Kunstverein Munich 慕尼黑藝術協會(慕尼黑,2014)、Young Artists Mediterranean Biennial 地中海青年藝術家雙年展(米蘭, 2016) ,Green Park、State of Concept(雅典,2015/2016)、FFT(杜塞道夫,2020)、K21(杜塞道夫,2021)、Sepulkralmuseum(卡塞爾,2021)、Halle Kassel Documenta 卡塞爾文獻展(卡塞爾,2021)和Tacheles(台北,2022)參與的聯展等。

Short Bio

Samuel Ferstl is a trained visual artist with degrees from the art academies of Munich and Düsseldorf and a master student title with Andrea Büttner, Academy of Fine Arts Kassel.

His focus is on conceptual, increasingly painterly works, which aim at art-historical research on visual forms of artistic attitudes, in the context of cultural-political and hegemonic (self-)criticism. During exhibitions he mostly uses the gallery space as a place of artistic knowledge production and extends his work through performative and collaborative projects to communicate his own research and open it to other perspectives.

Ferstl has demonstrated this in solo presentations such as Off space Prince of Wales (Munich, 2016), as well as group exhibitions and Performances at AA Collection (Vienna, 2013), Kunstverein Munich (2014), Young Artists Mediterranean Biennial (Milan, 2016), Green Park and State of Concept (Athens, 2015/16), FFT (Düsseldorf, 2020), K21 (Düsseldorf, 2021), Sepulkralmuseum (Kassel, 2021), documenta Halle, Kassel (2021), and Tacheles (Taipei, 2022), among others. Ferstl is founder of the art initiative Performance Epistemology and the gallery space PE Gallery, co-curating exhibitions and publications since 2021. Ferstl is currently studying curating and art criticism, as well as art history in Taipei, Taiwan.

Curatorial Projects

Ferstl has been working collaboratively since the beginning of his artistic practice in 2010 (e.g. with Yang Nai Yun, Blue Calls 2021). The focus has moved from collaborative work and connecting multiple artistic approaches in one theme to working intensively with individual artists and their concerns. Through Ferstl's deep interest in artistic media, contemporary discourse and the artist's perspective, he works ostensibly on new commissions by artists, emerging from dialogue. Thematically, the mostly intersectional critically differentiated concerns of Ferstl's colleagues are found embedded in publications, digital works, or sometimes unusual exhibition concepts, such as a train station bar, an empty office building, but also renowned exhibition venues. Tropes and metaphors, such as dinosaur, but also art historical references, such as a painting by Salvador Dali, serve as starting points. Ferstl particularly promotes artistic positions that are dedicated to their own sculptural or graphic examination and that thematically initiate contemporary problematics in the viewing rather than attempting to convey them themselves.

Kurzvita
